POSITION TITLE: Quality Assurance Technician

 

POSITION DESCRIPTION: Performs quality techniques to track, analyze, inspect, and report on materials, processes, equipment, and products to ensure they meet the company's quality and food safety standards.


PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

         Perform pre-operation inspection and swabs of production areas before start of production for food safety and quality systems compliance.

         Accurately completing and/or verifying all documentation according to the facility's Food Safety and Quality Systems and HACCP Plans in compliance with SQF Code.

         Maintain proper HACCP Training to know the importance of Critical Control Points.

         Perform hourly and other checks to ensure critical limits and other parameters are being met to assure product safety and quality is maintained.

         Help to ensure effective candling processes.

         Collect and analyze USDA Commodity and Export samples as needed.

         Aseptically pull and label samples, documenting Sample Ana lysis Request Form and submitting samples to lab for required analysis.

         Perform additional tests on product samples such as solids, pH, etc.

         Follow sampling procedures for environmental and product testing to analyze product for biological, chemical and physical properties.

         Follow and enforce Sanitation Standard Operating Procedures (SSOP's), Standard Operating Procedures (SOP's), Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP's), Food Safety Policies, and Good Documentation Practices (GDP' s) by inspecting the plant, equipment, and employees during production.

         Assist in the development of new and review of current procedures.

         Willing to take further education by taking outside courses relating to food quality and food safety.

         Facilitate employee training as it relates to QA Technician activities.

         Monitor the quality, type, and wholesomeness of all incoming and outgoing raw materials.

         Monitoring daily the refrigerator and freezer temperatures to ensure that library samples are stored at an ideal temperature.

         Assist with the completion of required paperwork that accompanies each shipment of product.

         Ensure that all documentation is error free before filing documentation.

         File documentation to ensure that records are up to date and readily available.

         Perform Internal Glass and Brittle Plastic, and Locker Inspections as assigned.

         Assist the Quality Assurance Supervision Staff with tasks upon request.

         Follow Deb El Foods Hold/Release Policy on non-conforming product.

         Assist with QA Hold book reconciliation.

         Will maintain confidentiality of testing procedures and results.

         Other tasks as assigned.

         Report any food safety and quality issues/problems to personnel with authority to initiate action.

 

 SECONDARY QUALITY ASSURANCE OBJECTIVES OF THIS POSITION:

          Work on special projects as needed.

          Assist in continuous improvement of quality systems.

          Document all work according to established procedures.

 

PERFORMANCE STANDARDS:

         Written documentation shall be kept on file demonstrating that ongoing training in quality procedures and systems has occurred, that documentation has been accurate, and that safety protocols have been followed.

         Understands the importance of Critical Control Points through proper HACCP training

          The ability to perform all required function al work accurately and on a timely basis.

          The ability to accept new responsibilities.

 

SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE AND PERSONAL CHARACTERISTICS:

         Two years of employment with food processing prefer red with quality experience highly desired.

         Understanding of USDA Regulations Governing Eggs and Egg Products.

         Understanding of Deb El processes and procedures relating to quality assurance and food safety.

         Good communication skills, verbal and written.

         Able to work without constant direct supervision.

          Basic computer knowledge with Word, Excel and Outlook programs.

          Abi lit y to pay attention to detail and ability to multitask.

         Strong attendance history.

         Basic analytical skills.

 

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

          Capable of lifting up to 50 pounds

         Able to stand or sit for several hours at a time depending on workload.

         Capable of working up to 12 hours per day.

         Schedule is determined by production, weekends are required.

 


POSITION REPORTS TO:

Primary: Quality Assurance Supervisor

Secondary: Quality Assurance Assistant Manager

Backup provided by: Trained Full-time or Back-up Quality Assurance Personnel

 


TRAINING REQUIR ED:

All annual training required at Deb El Food Products
